Europe Trip 2013 in Review, Day 1

In the airplane ready to take off!
Exactly one year ago Steven and I made the trip of a lifetime! We had saved and planned for a long time, and our trip to Europe was finally becoming a reality! We left 15 month old Henry with family, and headed off! Now I look back at pictures of him at that age and can't believe we left our baby like that!! It went flawlessly, and he did super, so it all worked out. Our trip was amazing. I got home and the HUNDREDS of pictures became quite overwhelming to even think about blogging. Now that we are a year out, it seems  more manageable and a way to reminisce about out trip. Steven and I have been talking a lot about it lately. :) I am going to try to do a post a day, starting at the very beginning of our 2 week trip. We went to Germany, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland.
We flew into Frankfurt, Germany and stayed our first night with family friends. They were awesome hosts.
Although we were exhausted and had basically been up for like 24 hours, we wasted no time napping! Our friends took us to downtown Frankfurt, a bustling city, to site see a bit. Here we are in Frankfurt by a frankfurter. :)

While most of Frankfurt was re-built in modern style after being bombed in WWII, the "living room" of Frankfurt still had the old world charm with traditional buildings, etc.

You can see I have ice cream in my hand...gelato to be exact. It is on every corner in Europe and only costs about a Euro, so we got it ALL the time!

That night we went to dinner at a traditional brew house with our friends. They ordered for us and were so helpful! It was such a neat atmosphere there. Oh, notice I am in my same clothes......our luggage was lost! We got it back from the airport the next day, but it was certainly a bummer way to start the trip! :)

This skillet was shared by 3 of us-there was tons of meat (schnitzel, bacon, etc) along with fried potatoes and green beans, all topped with a fried egg! It is real "stick to your ribs" kind of food.

Afterward we walked the town-such charm! Tomorrow, off to Rothenburg!
