Europe Trip 2013, Day 3

Munich, Germany is a bustling city! We stayed in the heart of Old Town and got to see the famous Glockenspiel chime (above).

We climbed the 300 stairs of Saint Peter's church to get a bird's eye view of the entire city, including Viktualienmarkt and The New Town Hall.

On top of St. Peter's church with city in background.

Next we visited Viktualienmarkt (Munich's outdoor market).

It was SO hot in Munich that a snack and cold drink under the shade of the chestnut trees in the biergarten is just what the doctor ordered!

German "brezels" were everywhere-cheap, huge, and filling. Oh, and yummy!

This is the maypole in the center of Viktualienmarkt which changes often to display the trades and products of Munich.

Amongst ALL the showcase of fruits and vegetables at Munich's outdoor market, you will find fresh spargel. It is in season in June, so we saw it being advertised everywhere, including as specialty dishes on menus. Spargel is seasonal white asparagus-pretty tasty!
We went on a guided walking tour around Munich to see some of the famous sites.

We ended with this famous site-the 5,000 seat Hofbrauhaus.
The band playing traditional music inside this HUGE restaurant.

And the next morning...another wonderful breakfast on the balcony overlooking the city. I think we took a picture of breakfast everyday! When you usually eat cereal everyday, these spreads were pretty darn exciting!:) Next up-we head to Austria!
