Brisk Me Away

Week Five

We've read that babies especially like to look at contrasting colors and that this helps with brain development. I printed off some black and white infant stimulation pages for Henry to be entertained by!

He zones in and stares these down. It is like he is reading them! It's almost like you can see his little neurons firing! I think the spiral (above) is his favorite.

We've been taking lots of walks in the neighborhood lately with such beautiful weather...usually our walks are with our neighbor Robin and her cutie 8 month old son Bennett.

The week ended rather crazily. I felt a bump while putting Desitin on Henry on Thursday night and called Friday morning just to run it by the nurse. They said they wanted to see him for it, and basically the pediatrician said that, because there was so much infection and because of his young age, she wanted to hospitalize him so that he could get IV antibiotics for 48 hours. She said it looked too much like other staph/mrsa cases she had seen and that it getting into his blood stream would be very serious. Evidently mrsa is "running rampant" in our area.

I was in total shock, but headed straight to the hospital and Steven met us there. They had to do a bunch of really no-fun things to Henry and it was really hard to watch our innocent little baby go through that. Getting the IV was the worst.

His arm was all splinted and taped up so he would not mess up the IV. Henry never ran a fever and was not fussy the whole time. They ran tons of different tests, but after 72 hours in the hospital (lucky us-we got to stay an extra day for another blood test), he was released with a clean bill of health. All cultures and blood tests came back clear as well and additional testing on his immune system that showed nothing abnormal. They diagnosed it as a non-contagious local infection. We praise God for this!! We had so many people praying with us...the network of prayers lifted up on Henry's behalf was overwhelming!

Henry never ran a fever or acted sick...he was as sweet as pie the whole time. Here it looks like he is saying, "You are gonna do what to me?"

"Really? What did I ever do to you?"

"You guys are wearing me out!" (I finally captured a picture of that cute dimple!)

"OK. Enough is enough. This is getting ridiculous!"
