Bunk Bed!

Henry has been in the converted crib with the front off for a LONG time! He has not complained or wanted to upgrade really-he was totally content! A few friends/family have bunk beds, though, so he has been mesmerized by these and wondered if he could have one one day. With a new baby on the way and a Grandpa who has recently gotten into woodworking, we figured now would be a good time to upgrade him!
Grandpa built the bed at his workshop at the farm and sent us updated pictures throughout. Henry was always so excited to see the progress! Grandpa brought it down this past Saturday and he and Steven spend a while putting it all back together. Henry loves it so much!! He is so proud of it-it feels huge compared to what he's been using!
Also, he's pretty excited about his new bedding. I bought this whole set when Henry was just a baby thinking we would use it someday...I'm proud of the deal I got-whole thing was only $10!!! Sheet set, comforter, sham, decorative pillow. Come to find out, the space ships on the comforter even glow in the dark! He's been so curious and pleased about it all (Mommy, what is this called?-talking about the comforter). He has plenty of room for all of his stuffed animals and blankies (yes, he's still holding on to those!). I ended up just putting a plain sheet set on the top bunk.
With the upgraded bed, we thought it was a good time to start transitioning Henry to "rest time" rather than "nap time". On Monday, I told him he could pick a few books to take to his bed to look through and he could sleep if he wanted to, but he could just look through books and rest if he wanted. You should have seen the grin on his face! He's so cute picking his books and arranging them all in his bed...sitting up and looking through them. The funny thing is that, so far for the 4 nap times he's had with this  new routine, he still slept for 3 of them! I'm just making a personal policy to wake him up by 3:00 so he can still get to sleep pretty quickly at night. He just sleeps SO hard that it is a difficult task if he sleeps too long.
He has also been so excited about the "chore" that comes with his  new bed-making it! He loves to arranging and straightening everything and does a super job! He's a responsible little guy, so this is right up his alley!:) Can't believe our big boy is in such a big kid bed...he's growing up so fast!

I LOVE IT!!! Dawson and Carter have been begging for bunk beds for a while and we have discussed the possibility of getting them sometime over the next 6 months-so please keep me updated with how Henry does with the bunks, so I'll know what to expect!! He looks so excited with his big boy bed that I know he will do awesome! AND how cool to have them made by a family member!
